Gibbs is without a doubt the best bet to be the first touchdown scorer for this Sunday Night Football matchup and his odds should be shorter than +600. Gibbs has been the Lions’ top back over David Montgomery this season, with Gibbs logging 61.1% of the snaps and averaging 14 carries per game, which is 51.5% of the running back carries for Detroit. Gibbs has been heavily utilized in scoring territory, ranking second in the NFL in redzone carries (23) and he has seen immense volume as a pass catcher, ranking fourth among running backs in target share (16.4%), including four redzone targets.
Specifically early in games, the Lions have made it a point of emphasis to feed Gibbs the rock. The back ranks fourth in first quarter carries (24) and three of Gibbs’ five touchdowns this season have come in the first period.
The Chiefs are allowing the sixth-most yards per rush this season (4.8) and Gibbs finding the paydirt first in this contest is very possible.
Travis Kelce First Touchdown Scorer (+1000)
Last week vs. the Jaguars, Kelce found the endzone in the first quarter, marking his second touchdown of the season. This season, the tight end is handling a 16.9% target share – including a team-high five redzone targets – while leading the Chiefs with a 79% route rate.
Kelce has been Patrick Mahomes’ main target in the first quarter of games this season, leading Kansas City with nine receptions and a 23.1% target share. Kelce should be targeted early and often in this Sunday night matchup with the Lions, and at these long +1000 odds, the veteran is worth taking a flier on to be the first touchdown scorer in this appealing spot for tight ends.
