Patrick Mahomes ($15,000 CP): Pat’s not the problem. He’s the answer — especially in SNF DFS Showdown lineups. The Chiefs are 2-3. The perennial “what’s wrong with the Chiefs?” has popped up. This season, it’s reared its ugly head a little early. The typically sharp Steve Spagnuolo defense is off to an average start. This has forced Mahomes to shift into playoff mode much earlier this season. The stats back it up. Mahomes scored 30.7 fantasy points in primetime last week and 27.3 in Week 4. The Chiefs will need prime Mahomes to keep pace with the Lions’ offense.
UTIL Plays
David Montgomery ($7,000): It’s hard to take Jahmyr Gibbs over Montgomery. Gibbs is $4,000 more expensive. The bulk of the backfield work has gone to Gibbs under the Lions’ new offensive coordinator. Even with a lighter load, Monty is still money. He scored 18.2 fantasy points in Week 4 and 32.4 against the Ravens in Week 2.
Kareem Hunt ($6,900): Anyone who has ever played an NFL showdown contest knows the challenge. The difficulty levels max out when the Chiefs play. They play in prime time a lot. That’s a lot of Andy Reid. Reading Reid and predicting his red-zone and goalline personnel and schemes is nearly impossible. The winning lineup picks all of the TDs. It will be another game of Reid roulette on Sunday. On Monday night, Kareem Hunt got the call against the Jags. Reid would never repeat his approach. He’s too clever, or maybe that’s exactly what he would do because he’s so clever.
Travis Kelce ($8,000): There is a traffic jam on Narrative Street. Mahomes has his back against the wall. Kelce is right there with him, and his football career is winding down. This might be the last dance. It sounds like too much narrative, but it isn’t. The narrative was heavy last week, and it worked. After the loss to the Jags, there’s another layer.
Fades
Sam LaPorta ($7,600): The Lions love tight ends. Head Coach Dan Campbell is a former tight end. As flashy and explosive as they are, the Lions rely on the big guys. The offensive line is the key to Detroit’s success and LaPorta is a part of that. He contributes in the blocking game and catches passes. He’s a pivotal cog, but this week his presence will be absent. Steve Spagunola defenses are notorious for shutting down opposing tight ends. With plenty of other options on the field, Jared Goff will likely direct the ball elsewhere.

Detroit should control this matchup from start to finish against a Kansas City team still searching for answers. Expect Jared Goff to stay efficient while the Lions’ defense limits Patrick Mahomes and forces the Chiefs into another frustrating offensive night. The Lions are positioned to pick up a statement win in primetime and solidify their spot among the NFC’s top contenders.
