Week 6 of the 2025-26 NFL season continues with a great Sunday Night Football matchup between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Detroit Lions. Kareem Hunt More Than 0.5 Rushing + Receiving TDs
Kareem Hunt has been the Chiefs’ primary rusher this season, not counting Patrick Mahomes. Hunt came off the couch last season to carry the ball for the Chiefs after Isiah Pacheco’s injury. However, Pacheco was never able to get back up to full speed, causing the Chiefs to turn back to Hunt during their run to the Super Bowl. Even after having all offseason to recover, Pacheco is not back to his old self. It has been a pretty even split between Pacheco and Hunt, but Hunt has slightly more rush attempts and yards. Where the difference has been most apparent, however, is at the goal line. Hunt has three rushing touchdowns on the season, while Pacheco is yet to score on the ground. There is an even balance between the two backs for most of the game, but Hunt is getting better scoring chances. That should allow him to find the end zone in this big game against the Lions.
David Montgomery More Than 43.5 Rushing Yards
Speaking of running back duos, David Montgomery is one half of the best running back duo in the NFL. Jahmyr Gibbs and David Montgomery, also known as Sonic and Knuckles, have been a key part of the fantastic Lions’ offense the past several years. The Lions got dominated by the Packers in Week 1, but over their past four games, they rank first in the NFL in offensive EPA/play. Detroit’s offense looks fantastic, and they should move the ball against the Chiefs. The Chiefs have been awful at stopping the run. They rank 31st in the NFL in defensive EPA/rush and 30th in defensive rushing success rate. The Lions should lean on their run game to control the clock and keep Patrick Mahomes off the field. Montgomery is averaging 62 rushing yards per game this season and should get over this number against the Chiefs.
Patrick Mahomes More Than 29.5 Rushing Yards
Patrick Mahomes has been the Chiefs’ leading rusher this season. Kareem Hunt is a great goal-line back, but he lacks explosiveness. Meanwhile, Isiah Pacheco has been unable to get any of his old explosiveness back. Patrick Mahomes is dropping back on a huge percentage of offensive plays, but is using his legs more often than he normally would in the regular season. Mahomes used to save his legs for the playoffs, but the Chiefs have needed him to run to keep the chains moving. Mahomes is averaging 38 rushing yards per game this season. This Lions defense is tough to beat, ranking in the top five in the NFL in defensive EPA/rush and defensive success rate. The Chiefs will struggle to move the ball, which means they likely need Mahomes to use his legs once more. There will be plenty of dropbacks where Mahomes has nobody open and should take off and run. That should lead to him getting over this number once again.
