Expect this clash of styles to work out in Hawaii’s favor as they attempt to attack through the air. Count on Ashlock to continue to headline this effort and be active in the red zone. He had two touchdowns against Sam Houston and one against Stanford already this year. Ashlock has failed to reach the end zone for three consecutive weeks, but count on this changing in the favorable matchup. He had nine touchdowns as a freshman and six last year. Look for Ashlock to add to his total and reach paydirt again this week.
Bryson Barnes Anytime TD (-115)
On the other side of this matchup, QB Bryson Barnes headlines the offensive effort for Utah State. The University of Utah transfer has really put it together in his senior season. Through his first five games, Barnes has completed 65.9% of his pass attempts for 1,143 passing yards, 11 passing touchdowns, and just one interception. Barnes has also utilized his legs at a high level. He has 245 rushing yards and a Mountain West Conference-best six rushing touchdowns on the year.
The Rainbow Warriors are giving up 23.5 points per game this season, which ranks 67th in the country. They are giving up 1.3 rushing touchdowns per game compared to 1.0 passing touchdowns.
Javen Jacobs and Miles Davis have added two rushing touchdowns each, but Barnes looks to be the preference in the red zone. He stands 6-foot-1 and is not afraid to take on a hit while displaying some solid baseline athleticism. Expect this to continue to be the case in this matchup and for Barnes to take full control with the end zone in front of him.
