It was a dramatic Game 5 on Friday between the Detroit Tigers and the Seattle Mariners. Both starting pitchers shoved, but it was Seattle that eventually prevailed in a 15-inning nail-biter. Now, the franchise advances to the American League Championship Series for the first time in 24 years for a date with the Toronto Blue Jays.
It’s time to dig into the opening odds on DraftKings Sportsbook for the series itself, as well as individual odds for Game 1.
At first glance, the Blue Jays are slight favorites to win the series at -115 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. However, the Mariners aren’t far behind at all as -105 underdogs to advance to the World Series. The odds favor a six-game series with over 5.5 games favored at -185 odds and over 6.5 outings listed at +190.
With two offenses capable of lighting up the scoreboard, it’s not shocking to see the two sides come into this series with such a slim margin. This should be a best-of-seven with plenty of offensive fireworks and some high-scoring affairs, but one area that could potentially shift the odds is a potential return for Brian Woo. The Mariners’ ace suffered a pec injury at the very end of the regular season and could return at some point over the next few games.
Looking toward the odds for Game 1 in particular, the Blue Jays are favored at -164 on the Moneyline to start the series with a win at home with Kevin Gausman on the mound. The Mariners hold +134 odds to win on the road, though a starter hasn’t been announced yet and that news could potentially shift the line a little bit in either direction. The run total for Game 1 sits at 7.5.
