Ohio State vs. Illinois: Carnell Tate Anytime TD (+100)
Ohio State is on a good path to repeat as national champions this season. Despite losing a lot of talent to the NFL, the Buckeyes look like a machine once again. While Emeka Egbuka is the favorite to win the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year, Carnell Tate has filled his role as the No. 2 receiver behind Jeremiah Smith. Tate is coming off the best game of his career, where he went for 183 yards and a score against Minnesota. Tate had nine catches in that game and continues to build a connection with Julian Sayin.
Defenses need to commit so much effort to stopping Smith that Tate is often in single coverage or on the weaker side of a zone. Egbuka was often the beneficiary of that situation last season, but this season it is Tate. Illinois ranks outside the top 90 in the country in both defensive EPA/pass and defensive passing success rate. Ohio State should be able to throw with ease, giving Tate a great chance to score his fifth touchdown of the season.
Texas vs. Oklahoma: Arch Manning Anytime TD (+170)
This is a massive game for Arch Manning. His tough start to the season has been widely publicized. The national media crowned Manning as the next big thing, the Heisman favorite and the future No. 1 overall pick. After a couple of poor performances, the same media is ready to declare him the biggest bust in college football history. The truth is, Manning is still a work in progress. He had minimal experience against quality competition coming into this season. Between Ohio State and Florida, he has had to face two of the best defensive fronts in the country, behind an offensive line that has really struggled.
Unfortunately for Manning and Texas, they are once again facing one of college football’s elite defensive lines this week. Oklahoma should win at the line of scrimmage, which means Steve Sarkisian needs to get creative to score points. The best way to beat that defensive line is by using the quarterback’s legs. Manning has five rushing touchdowns through five games this season. Whether it comes on a designed run call or a scramble drill when the pressure gets to him, Manning should have a chance to make a dash for the end zone.
Alabama vs. Missouri: Germie Bernard Anytime TD (+115)
Germie Bernard to score a touchdown is a weekly recurring bet for me this season. As a wise man once said, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. I have been a fan of Bernard going back to his days as the gadget player in Kalen DeBoer’s Washington offense. In an offense led by Michael Penix Jr., starring receivers like Rome Odunze, Jalen McMillan and Ja’Lynn Polk, Bernard was used on reverses, screen passes and other gadget plays. However, after following DeBoer to Alabama, Bernard has become a superstar. The Crimson Tide’s phenom, Ryan Williams, stole the headlines last season as a freshman. However, Bernard’s numbers were pretty comparable to Williams’ numbers.
So far this season, Bernard has been the Crimson Tide’s top target. He leads the team in receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns. Bernard has six touchdowns in his past four games and should keep it rolling against Missouri. Bernard is reliable because he will be used in the run game and on trick plays, but can also get open over the top of the defense just like Williams. That is why he is such a good bet to get in the end zone every week, and this week’s big game against Missouri is no different.
