Just when things looked over, the Yankees fought back. Down 6-1 in the fourth inning, New York put up eight unanswered runs. The highlight? A three-run, game-tying Aaron Judge home run off of the foul pole.
Still, the Blue Jays hold the ALDS upper hand with a 2-1 series lead. The Bronx Bombers will turn to rookie Cam Schlittler, fresh off of his dominant performance last week vs. Boston. Toronto will opt for an unorthodox bullpen game, hoping to mix and match against New York’s big bats. Which players in this star-studded AL East showdown will step up tonight?

Vladimir Guerrero over 1.5 hits + runs + RBIs (-123)
What a week it’s been for Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The first baseman has been on an absolute heater, launching three homers in three games vs. New York. By now, the slugger has earned the title of baseball’s preeminent Yankees killer. Sporting an eye-popping 1.908 OPS this postseason, it’s nearly impossible to fade Vladdy right now.
Granted, Wednesday’s game could cause some problems for the Blue Jays. Toronto found success vs. Schlittler last month, but the righty has wipeout stuff that could give opposing batters fits. However, that may not apply to Guerrero Jr. Over two meetings with the right-hander, Vladdy has gone four-for-five at the plate. Expecting four straight homers from the All-Star is insanity (or is it?). Regardless, there’s no reason not to think he’ll torment New York yet again tonight.
Cody Bellinger 2+ total bases (+115)
Judge has gotten most of the attention for the Yankees, and rightfully so. However, several of his teammates are starting to look more comfortable at the plate. That includes Cody Bellinger, who was largely ineffective last week vs. the Red Sox. However, the outfielder has gone three-for-eight at the plate with three RBIs over his previous two games. Tuesday’s two-hit effort was Belli’s best postseason stat line in Pinstripes.
Toronto is set to begin tonight’s game with Louis Varland. The hard-throwing righty is there primarily for his potential to get out Aaron Judge. However, left-handed hitters have recorded a solid .426 slugging percentage against him this season. Projected to follow Varland will be veteran hurler Eric Lauer. Bellinger owns a career .879 OPS vs. the southpaw, going back to their days in the National League. The former MVP appears poised for another productive evening in Game 4.
