Any time Miami meets Florida State, it’s must-watch television. That’s especially true this season, with both teams having a real shot at reaching the College Football Playoffs.
The #3 Hurricanes have emerged as a legitimate national title contender, led by quarterback Carson Beck. On the other side #18 FSU has been rejuvenated under center by transfer Tommy Castellanos. One thing is for certain: there’s plenty of talent on the sideline for these two powerhouse programs. Which names will step up on Saturday night?

Thomas Castellanos 180+ passing yards (-112)
The Noles have leaned heavily on Tommy Castellanos so far, and for good reason. He’s quickly emerged as one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in college football. On the ground, the senior has ran for 217 yards and four scores. Through the air, he’s added 848 passing yards and four more touchdowns.
With that being said, this could be a difficult matchup for Castellanos. The Canes have done an excellent job at containing opposing quarterbacks this season. Just look at South Florida’s Byrum Brown, who only gained two rushing yards in Week 3 vs. Miami. Future first-round pick Rueben Bain Jr. is an absolute menace along the defensive line.
While Castellanos will make an impact, it might be with his arm rather than his legs. Keep in mind, the 22-year-old currently leads the nation with 12.1 yards per pass attempt. In other words, he doesn’t need a ton of throws to reach this total. In addition, there’s a scenario in which Miami holds a multi-score lead late. If that’s the case, FSU will be forced to abandon the run game.
Malachi Toney 60+ receiving yards (-117)
Miami isn’t the only squad in this contest capable of bringing pressure. Florida State has already racked up ten sacks and 26.0 tackles for loss this season. Unlike Castellanos, Hurricanes quarterback Carson Beck isn’t the most mobile passer. That’s not to say the senior can’t move a bit, but he’s far more comfortable with a clean pocket.
If Beck is forced to get the ball out quickly, there’s a good chance he’ll opt for shorter passes. That means plenty of work could be in store for talented freshman Malachi Toney. The wide receiver has been a revelation so far, hauling in 22 passes for 268 yards and a touchdown. He’s been remarkably consistent as well, notching at least six catches and 66 receiving yards in three of his four appearances.
Assuming the Seminoles keep things close, Miami will have a reason to throw the ball. That sets up Toney, the team’s most talented pass catcher, for another productive outing. At just 60 yards, the slot specialist offers great value tonight.
