The Giants finally started Jaxson Dart over Russell Wilson. It took three weeks, and the tipping point was likely Wilson’s performance against the Chiefs in Week 3.
Dart earned the start against the Chargers in Week 4 and impressed, although the numbers don’t necessarily show that. The rookie quarterback finished with 111 passing yards, one passing touchdown, 54 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown.
He completed 13-of-20 passes and had 10 carries in his debut start. It’s not a high-usage outing, but the offense looked rejuvenated with him under center. That’s enough of a reason for the Giants to keep him as the starter.
It’s a no-brainer for New York, but there’s a debate whether he’s a must-start quarterback for fantasy owners. This question comes after Malik Nabers suffered a season-ending ACL injury in Week 4 against the Chargers. Without his top wide receiver, is Dart still worth starting in your lineups?
Yes and largely because of his value as a rusher. Dart was much more of a passer in the preseason, but he showcased his running ability in his first game in the regular season. Ten carries is not a lot compared to Cam Skattebo’s 25 carries, but it’s still a notable amount.
Ten carries a week isn’t sustainable for Dart, but he’ll still be a factor on the ground. Additionally, he’s going to pass more often. He finished the preseason with 372 passing yards and three passing touchdowns on 32-of-47 attempts.
Dart doesn’t compare to the likes of Josh Allen or Lamar Jackson (when healthy), of course, but he’s a good option if your fantasy lineup needs a starting quarterback. His ability to consistently score fantasy points through the air or on the ground makes him a must-start in Week 5 against the Saints.
