Demond Williams Jr. is a rising star in college football. He was the backup to Will Rogers last season, but took over late in the season to start the bowl game for Washington. He put on a show, demonstrating his incredible arm talent and athleticism. It has been a brilliant start to the season for Williams. He is averaging 259 passing yards per game and has a 6-0 TD-INT ratio. Williams is also averaging 73.3 rushing yards per game and has two rushing touchdowns.
This will be his toughest test to date against Ohio State, but it helps that this big game is at home in Seattle. The Ohio State defense is strong and will be disciplined when Washington gets into the red zone. The young quarterback might just have to rely on his instincts and scramble for a touchdown. He has rushed for a touchdown in each of his last two games and should keep the streak going today.
Carnell Tate 62+ Receiving Yards (-114)
Ohio State has been a wide receiver factory over the years. Once again, it has arguably the best wide receiver room in college football. Jeremiah Smith is widely regarded as the best receiver in the country, but that doesn’t always mean that he puts up the biggest numbers. Defenses need to devote so much defensive attention to Smith that other receivers are the beneficiaries of single coverage. Last season, Emeka Egbuka and Carnell Tate both reaped the rewards of that at different times. However, this season, Tate is the clear WR2.
Washington’s star cornerback Tacario Davis is likely to miss this game. Normally, Davis would be one of the few cornerbacks in college football capable of containing Smith on his own. However, Washington will likely need to play more zone today because of that injury. The zone will be shaded toward Smith, which should allow Tate to get open. He has cleared this number in each of his past two games, including going for over 100 yards against Ohio. Tate should clear this number for the third straight game in this big matchup against Washington.
