Week 4 of the NFL season has arrived, and the injuries are already starting to pile up. The Buccaneers will face the Eagles this week, with Baker Mayfield headlining the injury report. Mayfield is officially listed as questionable with a right biceps injury and has practiced in a limited capacity throughout the week. Per Fox’s Greg Auman, Mayfield is trending towards being available for the Week 4 matchup, in addition to Chris Godwin and Tristan Wirfs.
Mike Evans is expected to miss the matchup, and potentially a few games beyond, after aggravating a hamstring injury that is considered a low-grade strain.
Baker Mayfield’s Injury Outlook
It takes quite a bit for Mayfield to miss a matchup, and reports seem to be hinting that his current ailment does not surpass this threshold. He has practiced in a limited capacity throughout the week and has been spotted with a compression sleeve on his throwing arm at practice.
This is a high-profile matchup against the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles, with both teams off to a 3-0 start to the season. Tampa Bay is also attempting to climb the list of legitimate Super Bowl threats, and this is the type of opportunity to make a statement it should be looking to capitalize on. The Eagles remain the favorite to win the NFC at +380 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook, while the Buccaneers are seventh in this category at +1000 odds.
Through these first three games, Mayfield has completed 61.6% of his pass attempts for 615 passing yards and six touchdowns. He has yet to throw an interception. He has also added 116 rushing yards on the ground. He is averaging 20.1 fantasy points per game based on DraftKings scoring, which ranks 11th among quarterbacks.
Unless there is any update closer to kickoff, all expectations are for Baker Mayfield to be on the field for Week 4. Tampa Bay will need a strong performance from its quarterback if it is going to seize the opportunity for a statement win against the defending champions.
