Three games are all that stands between the 2025 MLB postseason. Still, the fate of several would-be contenders is currently hanging in the balance. With so many must-watch matchups, this is an enticing slate for baseball bettors. That includes those looking to place some NRFI wagers. Given the amount of talent pitching tonight, a clean first inning doesn’t sound too daunting. However, starting strong is easier said than done.
Ahead of Friday’s MLB contests, here are three NRFI bets worth considering on DraftKings Sportsbook.
Orioles vs. Yankees NRFI (-105)
All eyes will be on New York as they attempt to surpass the Blue Jays in the AL East. Friday’s matchup could prove difficult, even for an elite lineup. Trevor Rogers has been nothing short of phenomenal in 2025. Through 17 starts, the left-hander has notched a 1.35 ERA, 0.87 WHIP and 100 strikeouts. That includes a six-inning, one-hit performance vs. the Yankees last weekend. Rogers has allowed a first inning run only once this entire season. The Pinstripes, for all their offensive prowess, are at a disadvantage against Baltimore’s unexpected ace.
For the home team, Will Warren is set to take the hill. All things considered, it’s been a promising campaign for the rookie. Over 157.1 innings of work, he’s posted a 4.35 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 164 strikeouts. That includes a 2.31 ERA over his last two appearances vs. Baltimore. The Orioles are an inconsistent offense, ranking inside the bottom ten in runs per game. In addition, the team’s NRFI rate of 73.58% is tied for the fifth-highest mark in baseball. Warren, despite his inexperience, has what it takes to step up in this playoff-esque environment.
Rangers vs. Guardians NRFI (-135)
Texas’ playoff dreams have come to a close, thanks to a bad combination of injuries and lackluster hitting. However, there are a few bright spots worth mentioning on this squad. That includes Jack Leiter, who has emerged as a valuable member of the team’s rotation. This season, the 25-year-old owns a 3.92 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 138 strikeouts. Even more impressive is a 2.89 first inning ERA. Tonight’s opponent, Cleveland, is arguably the American League’s hottest club. However, that’s due more to its pitching. On offense, the Guardians are averaging the fourth-fewest runs per game in baseball (3.95).
On the other side, it’ll be Slade Cecconi toeing the slab. The 26-year-old has broken out in a major way since the All-Star break. In eight of his last 11 outings, the right-hander has surrendered three runs or less. That includes a six-inning, two-run showing vs. the Rangers on August 22nd. Texas’ 74.21% NRFI rate is currently the highest mark in the American League. In comparison, Cecconi has delivered a sparkling 2.02 first inning ERA. Cleveland’s talented hurler has the edge tonight against one of the sport’s least intimidating lineups.
Reds vs. Brewers NRFI (-120)
If anyone needs a win on Friday, it’s the Reds. Cincinnati finds itself one game back of the Mets for sole possession of the National League’s final wildcard spot. The team will entrust midseason acquisition Zack Littell tonight. Since joining his new club, the veteran has been mediocre (4.62 ERA). Still, he’s usually someone that comes out firing. The righty’s first inning ERA sits at just 2.61. The Brewers, for all their firepower on offense, aren’t quick starters. Milwaukee’s NRFI rate at home is a league-worst 82.05%.
To counter Littell, Quinn Priester will take the mound. It’s been a season to remember for the 25-year-old. Over 152.1 innings, he’s recorded a 3.25 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 128 strikeouts. Cincinnati, despite rostering several solid hitters, has had its issues away from home. The team is averaging the 12th-fewest runs per game on the road (4.32). In addition, Priester has held the Reds to three earned runs over two games this season (2.61 ERA). Expect another clean first inning from Milwaukee’s underrated starter.
