Despite Zach Charbonnet (foot) being inactive, Kenneth Walker only produced 38 rushing yards on 16 carries in last Sunday’s blowout win over the Saints. Since then, Charbonnet has been a full participant at practice and while he is listed as questionable for Thursday night, Charbonnet is expected to play Thursday, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. With Charbonnet returning, he and Walker will get back to sharing the Seattle backfield like we saw the first two weeks of the season.
In those games, Charbonnet was the lead rusher for the Seahawks over Walker. Charbonnet saw 27 carries and logged 56.4% of the snaps, whereas Walker saw 23 carries and logged 37.6% of the snaps. In these two games, Walker had two dramatically different performances, rushing 10 times for 20 yards in Week 1 and then rushing 13 times for 108 yards in Week 2.
Turning 13 carries into over 100 yards in that latter start felt very fluky and another performance like this is unlikely for Walker this Thursday, not just because of Charbonnet’s presence, but because of this matchup with the Cardinals.
This season, Arizona is giving up the 10th-fewest yards per rush (5.3) and the Cardinals are limiting their opponents to the seventh-fewest YAC (201). With 68% of Walker’s rushing yards this season coming after contact, he should fall short of 53.5 rushing yards in this spot.
