The headliner in this one will be Crochet, making perhaps his finals tart of the regular season. If not for Tarik Skubal, the 26-year-old would be in pole position to win his first career Cy Young award. Granted, the All-Star has looked somewhat mortal recently, surrendering three runs in each of his previous two starts. Crochet has held the Blue Jays to three earned runs over 12.2 innings this season (2.13 ERA).
Toronto has spent most of 2025 as a lethal offensive unit, especially at home. However, that hasn’t been the case in recent weeks. During their last ten games, the Blue Jays have only scored 36 total runs. That’s the seventh-lowest mark in baseball in that time. Canada’s team has scored only one run in three of their last four contests. However, they own the league’s fourth-highest OPS vs. left-handed pitching this season.
The bigger question for the Jays tonight isn’t on offense. Starting pitcher Max Scherzer has had plenty of solid moments with Toronto. However, his most recent outing vs. Kansas City was a disaster (0.2 IP, 7 ER). The future Hall of Famer has allowed more than three runs in four of his last five appearances. That doesn’t bode well heading into a matchup with an elite lineup. The Red Sox rank sixth in baseball with 4.85 runs per game on the road. In 13 career meetings with Boston, Scherzer has accounted for a 5.67 ERA.
