MLB Tuesday betting preview: Skubal vs. Guardians, Mets Playoff Push, Judge Nears 50 HRs

We’re in the final stretch of the regular season and all 30 teams are in action today, with serious playoff implications at stake. There is a chance of showers in some spots on Tuesday’s slate, but nothing too concerning in the forecast. Fans will have the opportunity to catch a game with one playoff hopeful in action, as TBS will be on the call for Mets-Cubs at 7:40 p.m. ET. Here’s some MLB picks and props to consider for September 23.

MLB Odds & Storylines

Let’s start with those Mets. After boasting the best record in the big leagues at 45-24 on June 12, the Mets have collapsed and now find themselves fighting for their playoff lives. They currently are tied with the Reds for the final Wild Card spot after going 4-6 in their last 10 games and will send David Peterson (9-6; 3.98 ERA; 1.34 WHIP) to the mound at Wrigley Field. Peterson has seen his ERA balloon to 5.71 in the second half, with his 7.63 mark in three starts this month particularly troubling. The Mets, however, are -1.5 favorites on the run line on DraftKings Sportsbook. It should also be noted that each of the Mets’ last six night games against National League opponents have gone OVER the total runs line, which for tonight is set at 7.5 (+104).

Meanwhile, Tarik Skubal (-20000 to win the AL Cy Young on DraftKings Sportsbook) takes the ball in Cleveland as the Tigers take on the Guardians with just 1 game separating the two teams in the AL Central. Skubal has recorded nine or more strikeouts (+127 on DraftKings Sportsbook) in each of his last three appearances against the Guardians, and the Tigers are -1.5 favorites on the run line.

Finally, the Yankees can punch their ticket to the postseason with victory tonight over the White Sox. The Yankees are -1.5 favorites on the run line in the Bronx and Aaron Judge sits just one home run shy of 50 for the season. Judge has one hit in three at-bats against tonight’s White Sox starter Shane Smith, but that one hit was a home run. Judge has gotten hot in September, slashing .344/.506/.656 with six home runs in 19 games. He is +219 to hit 1+ home run tonight.
