For the first time in nearly a quarter century, the Mariners could win the AL West. Right now, Seattle sits 3.0 games ahead of the Astros following a weekend sweep in Houston. Taking care of business against the woeful Rockies would put the M’s one step closer towards hosting a playoff series. Still, this is baseball, and anything can happen. Does Colorado have any chance at pulling off an upset? Below, I’ve laid out my preview, prediction, and best bet for Tuesday’s meeting between the Rockies and the Mariners
Seattle is favored (-286) over Colorado, with the over/under set at eight runs. Let’s break down which side has the edge on DraftKings Sportsbook entering tonight’s contest.
Rockies vs. Mariners prediction, preview
In the wide-open American League, the Mariners look like bonafide World Series contenders. Unlike in years past, this is an incredibly well-rounded squad. Seattle’s rotation continues to rank among the sport’s best. At the plate, the team is also capable of doing serious damage. It all starts with Cal Raleigh, who leads all of baseball with 58 home runs. Against a miserable Rockies pitching staff, there’s a decent chance the catcher reaches 60 dingers before the weekend. He’s joined by fellow sluggers Julio Rodriguez (125 wRC+), Josh Naylor (131 wRC+) and Jorge Polanco (129 wRC+).
Even at pitcher-friendly T-Mobile Park, this offense is a challenge for any pitcher. That’s especially true for projected starter McCade Brown, who has been awful this season. Through 17.2 innings of work, the right-hander has recorded a 9.17 ERA and a whopping 2.09 WHIP. Granted, some of that has to do with playing at Coors Field, the reverse T-Mobile. Still, there’s nothing in those numbers that suggests success tonight against one of the sport’s best lineups. In eight combined innings on the road, Brown has surrendered six total runs.
For the home team, Bryce Miller will get the nod tonight. It’s been a shaky, injury-plagued 2025 campaign for the 27-year-old. Over 16 starts, he’s accounted for a 5.58 ERA, 1.41 WHIP and 68 strikeouts. The right-hander has looked better lately, albeit not by much. In four outings since August 31st, Miller has notched a 4.50 ERA. However, Tuesday’s showdown could be a breeze. The Rockies are averaging a league-worst 2.87 runs per game on the road. Outside of Hunter Goodman (119 wRC+) and Mickey Moniak (111 wRC+), none of Colorado’s bats are even worth mentioning. Even then, neither hitter has an OBP above .300 on the road.
Rockies vs. Mariners pick, best bet
Best Bet: Rockies vs. Mariners over eight total runs (-113)
There’s no value on betting Mariners ML at -286; even -1.5 (-133) isn’t worth it. On the other hand, backing the Rockies on the road (or anywhere) is gambling malpractice. Instead, the savvy play tonight is on the over. Seattle’s sluggers are capable of reaching eight runs on their own. It’s not out of the question that Miller could have a down inning or two, as well. Expect both offenses to find some success on Tuesday.
