Sunday Night Football of Week 3 features a nice matchup to wrap up the day as the Chiefs roll into the Big Apple to face the Giants. Both teams are 0-2 and trying to avoid dropping to 0-3 to start the season. The matchup is also the focus of some big DFS showdown contests, including the NFL $1.11M Sunday Night Showdown [$250K to 1st] (KC @ NYG). As you build your lineups for Sunday Night Football, my favorite Captain’s Pick plays are Hollywood Brown ($12,600 as Captain’s Pick) and Cam Skattebo ($9,600 as Captain’s Pick).
Here’s a deeper look at why I like these Captain’s Picks and how I’m going about building a lineup from top to bottom:
Hollywood Brown as a Captain’s Pick
The Chiefs are short-handed at receiver with Xavier Worthy (shoulder) missing his second straight game and Rashee Rice (suspension) still out for multiple weeks. Rookie Jalen Royals ($2,800; knee) is questionable, but Brown should remain heavily involved even if Royals is ready for his debut.
In Week 1, after Worthy left, Brown caught 10 of 16 targets for 99 yards. In Week 2, his targets settled back to just five, and he hauled in all five of them for 30 yards. He was tied for second on the team in targets behind only Travis Kelce ($8,000).
Brown should be able to take advantage of this matchup against the Giants, who have allowed more fantasy points to wide receivers than any other team in the NFL. In Week 1, the Commanders’ receivers had 176 receiving yards against New York, while the Cowboys’ receivers had 243 receiving yards last week.
The Chiefs will have to rely on Brown again this week, and if targets flood his way again, he should have a very high ceiling
Cam Skattebo Taking on a Bigger Role?
On the other side, Giants rookie running back Cam Skattebo is a very affordable Captain’s Pick play that brings a high ceiling and plenty of flexibility.
In Week 1, Skattebo played just eight snaps (12%) and had two carries for -3 yards. He also caught two passes for 12 yards and finished with 2.9 fantasy points.
In Week 2, he had a much larger role, though, playing 35 snaps (52%) and finishing with 13.9 fantasy points on 11 carries for 45 yards and a touchdown, along with two catches for 14 yards.
In Week 3, Skattebo is expected to get even more work, according to this report from Mike Garafolo.
The Chiefs have allowed the sixth-fewest fantasy points to running backs this season, but Skattebo brings enough bargain upside to still be worth building around despite the matchup.
Lineup Advice
If you’re building around Brown, including Patrick Mahomes ($10,400) in a FLEX spot makes sense as a stack. You can include Malik Nabers ($11,000) or Travis Kelce ($8,000) and still fit some solid pieces in the rest of your flex spots.
If you slide Skattebo into your Captain’s Pick spot, the other five FLEX spots can average over $8,000 each with plenty of ways to build your roster. You can include Nabers, Brown, and either quarterback, or you can go with a full Chiefs passing game stack with Skattebo as your Giants representative if you don’t trust Russell Wilson ($9,400).
Either of these two Captain’s Picks allow you to stack Wilson and Nabers in Flex spots if you believe last week’s big game against the Cowboys was the start of a new direction for the Giants’ duo.
Value plays
As value plays, kickers and defense are usually low-risk plays with decent upside. In this game, both Harrison Butker ($5,400) and Graham Gano ($5,000) are solid but not very cheap. Gano has been slightly better this season but Butker has a longer history of sucess.
Tyquan Thornton ($4,400) had a huge game last week against the Giants, catching two passes for 59 yards and a touchdown. Darius Slayton ($4,200) on the other side is also a big-play threat, and he hauled in 2-of-3 targets for 61 yards in Week 2 after being held without a catch in Week 1.
As mentioned above, Royals could also be an option if he plays through a questionable tag. Royals brings dynamic upside but hasn’t been able to get on the field to establish himself in a meaningful role.
If you need to go even cheaper, Noah Gray ($2,000) has been involved for the Chiefs this season. He only had one catch last week, but did get five targets, after getting just one target in Week 1.
