In the last five matchups between these sides, it’s been fairly even. Chelsea have won twice, United have won twice and there’s been one draw. Chelsea have had the edge in the last three matches, though, winning two and drawing one.
Even though Chelsea played a Champions League game on Wednesday and the game is in Manchester, I still fancy them to get a result. Manchester United are in complete turmoil and have shown no signs of improvement this season. The Red Devils have won only one of their opening four matches, and they needed a late penalty to do so against Burnley. They sit in 14th place in the league and have already been famously knocked out of the Carabao Cup against Grimsby Town.
For Chelsea, things haven’t been perfect either but they are definitely in a better place as a team and a club. They sit in 5th place after four games, winning two and drawing two of their games so far. Their UCL campaign didn’t get off to the best start with a 3-1 loss to Bayern Munich, but getting a result at the Allianz Arena is always difficult. Chelsea finished in the top five of the Premier League last season and won the Club World Cup for a reason. They have much more quality than Man United, and aren’t under half as much pressure as Ruben Amorim is to deliver. I think this will be a closely contested match, with the Blues finding a way to get the three points.
