There are 11 days left in the regular season. The Rockies have 10 games left.
That means that Colorado has 10 opportunities to pick up the win that will put it ahead of last year’s White Sox and prevent the organization from becoming the worst team in the modern era. Sounds easy, right? Well, the Rockies have dropped their last four contests and are 2-13 in the month of September, so… Don’t take anything for granted.
Will the Marlins finish off this sweep? Let’s preview this matinee matchup with the help of some of those odds and lines on the DraftKings Sportsbook.
Marlins vs. Rockies prediction, preview
The reason to watch this pointless game? Sandy Alcantara. It remains to be seen if the Marlins will trade away the former Cy Young Award winner this winter, but Alcantara is certainly trying to build up his value as of late. Though the season-long numbers remain underwhelming, Alcantara has been very encouraging since August 15, a span of time where the RHP has mustered a 2.48 ERA and a 3.00 FIP across six starts. It’s also a stretch where Alcantara has posted a 26.6% strikeout rate and a 6.83 K/BB ratio. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you’re not burdened with the league’s worst luck, right? On that note, despite the recent success, Alcantara’s 60.0% strand rate in 2025 is still the lowest qualified mark in baseball.
Unfortunately for Alcantara, Coors Field isn’t quite the place to maintain your pristine statistics as a pitcher. For as terrible as the Rockies are, the altitude gives the lineup super powers. Colorado ranks third in MLB in home batting average (.271) and the 10th in home wOBA (.331). For the sake of comparison, the Rockies hit a league-worst .205 when on the road, so that should give you a sense of what Alcantara is up against on Thursday afternoon.
Also battling the elevation will be Tanner Gordon, who will be making his 14th start of the season. Shockingly, Gordon’s actually pitched better in Colorado than on the road in 2025, though that’s a low bar to clear when your ERA away from Coors sits at a robust 7.40. Gordon comes into today’s tilt in possession of third percentile marks in opponent expected batting average (.300) and whiff rate (17.0%). The 27-year-old isn’t much to write home about, though he is directly on the heels of his best outing of the year, striking out nine and holding the Padres to a single earned run over six frames. Maybe Gordon will build off that performance, but the odds are not in his favor.
Marlins vs. Rockies pick, best bet
Best Bet: Sandy Alcantara to Record a Win (+118)
Alcantara is in a groove at the moment and this is an easy way to back the Marlins to win at plus-money, whereas there’s little value on the moneyline.
