After eclipsing 1,000 rushing yards in back-to-back seasons, James Cook inked a four-year, $48 million contract extension with the Bills this offseason and as expected, he has been the team’s primary rusher this season. Cook is averaging 17 carries per game, which is 70.8% of the running back carries for Buffalo and he is producing 5.2 YPC. Plus, Cook ranks fifth in YAC among the running backs that have seen at least 10 carries (136). This past Sunday, the 25-year-old rushed for 132 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries in the Bills’ 30-10 rout over the Jets.
Buffalo leading for the entirety of that contest translated into the Bills rushing the ball on 60.6% of their plays and it’s safe to expect another rush-heavy attack for Buffalo this Thursday vs. the Dolphins. The Bills are a huge 12.5-point home favorite for this AFC East matchup and Cook should see around 20 carries with Buffalo likely to lead for most of this lopsided affair, putting him in a prime position to clear 67.5 rushing yards.
