The Fever have been plagued by injuries this season, but one constant has been Kelsey Mitchell and her high offensive usage. The 29-year-old guard carried Indiana’s offense in the Game 1 loss, scoring 27 points (playoff career-high) while shooting 9-of-18 from the field. She nearly out-scored the other four Fever starters herself and was just one of two players to score double-digit points.
With the season on the line, I’m expecting similar results for the veteran again tonight. Mitchell garners a 26.4% usage rate, which is 4.9 percentage points higher than her next closest teammate, Aliyah Boston. If Indiana is going to extend the series, it will likely be because of a Mitchell scoring explosion. She cleared this line twice against the Dream during the regular season (both at home) and in six of her last 10 games entering the postseason. Atlanta is defensively sound, ranking second in defensive rating this season; however, limiting opposing guards has been a tall task, with the team ranking eighth in defensive rating specifically against the position. Mitchell has averaged nearly 16 field goal attempts per game this season and has little to no help, so the scoring opportunities feel endless.
