The Cincinnati Bengals’ season outlook shifted greatly in the second quarter of yesterday’s victory over the Jaguars. Joe Burrow was sacked by Arik Armstead and remained down, holding his ankle/foot area following the play. The Bengals’ star was immediately checked out by trainers and was unable to return to the game.
The level of concern increased when ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported this morning that Burrow has been diagnosed with turf toe and requires surgery that’ll keep him sidelined for at least three months. Burrow and the Bengals are getting a second opinion and sorting through all of their options, but the pathway to a Super Bowl just got more difficult, no matter how you cut it.
Changes in DraftKings Futures Market:
The Bengals now hold +5000 odds of winning the Super Bowl on DraftKings Sportsbook. They’re tied with the Arizona Cardinals and behind the Denver Broncos, Washington Commanders and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Cincinnati opened the season with +2000 odds of winning the Super Bowl on DraftKings Sportsbook. Following its 17-16 victory over the Browns in Week 1, its odds jumped to +2500. The number shifted to +3500 immediately after Burrow went down and +5000 following the latest injury news.
The star quarterback appears set to be out until at least mid-December. Cincinnati will have to tread water without him as it looks to get back to the postseason for the first time in three seasons. On the bright side, the Bengals are 2-0 even if the victories haven’t been as pretty as hoped for. Jake Browning will remain as the starter in Burrow’s absence.
There’s also been an odds adjustment for other Cincinnati futures. The Bengals held +230 odds to win the division, +950 odds to win the conference and -150 of winning over 9.5 games at. the start of the season. Now, those odds are +650 to win the AFC North, +2200 to win the AFC and -150 to win over 7.5 games on DraftKings Sportsbook.
