Justin Jefferson ($12,000): Week 1 wasn’t the typical elite wide receiver performance. Jefferson caught four of seven passes for 44 yards and a touchdown. The fact is, the Vikings weren’t very aggressive. They played it safe. Their quarterback was making his first career start. The script was vanilla, and it worked. The Vikings will likely need to do more work in Week 2. The Falcons should be able to move the ball. That will require more from the Vikings. That easily translates into more volume for Jefferson. Elite wide receivers are historically must-roster players on SNF Showdown slates, which often feature limited player pools.
JJ McCarthy ($9,400): Play the favorites. The winning DraftKings lineup favored the favorite in 60% of the 2024 DFS Showdown slates. Week 1 was rough from a DFS perspective. The Vikings do not care. They won, and McCarthy did exactly what he asked to do. His line was limited but efficient (98.5 QB Rating). If Robinson runs wild, then the Vikings offense will need to respond. The Falcons held Baker Mayfield to less than 200 yards passing in Week 1, but Mayfield threw three TD passes and was only sacked once.
Ray-Ray McCloud III ($5,400): His touchdown upside is limited. Bijan Robinson, Drake London and Kyle Pitts are the Falcons’ scoring threats. At $5,400, McCloud doesn’t necessarily need to find the endzone. The same weapons that limit the 5-foot-9 receiver’s redzone viability open him up on the other 80 yards of the field. The Vikings’ secondary is below average and can be exploited. Falcons WR Darnell Mooney is a game-time decision. McCloud should be able to return value from a PPR perspective.
Fades
Adam Thielen ($4,800): He’s old. His return to Minnesota is a great story. The veteran will likely have a productive season, but he’s not a Showdown Slate breaker. It won’t take much for Thielen to return value, but how much work will he get? The Vikings will likely need to pass more, but it’s unlikely that the Vikings’ coaching staff will completely remove the gloves. McCarthy will be given more freedom, but it’s still just his second career start. Jefferson could go off. That’s largely dependent on big-play upside. Thielen isn’t breaking off chunk plays. He needs a touchdown and volume. It’s doubtful he receives either.
