The Arkansas Razorbacks have had a strong start to their season. After a 4-8 season in 2023, Sam Pittman saved his job with a 7-6 2024 season. However, Pittman’s seat was still firmly hot coming into the 2025 season. Wins over Alabama A&M and Arkansas State were expected, but the manner of victory was impressive for the Razorbacks. Quarterback Taylen Green leads the nation with ten passing touchdowns in two games and looks sharp in year two of Bobby Petrino’s offense. The Hogs also have a couple of dangerous running backs and a wide receiver set for a breakout season, O’mega Blake. Going into this season, Arkansas was just hoping to make another bowl game. However, they have a chance to knock off Ole Miss in this game and become a team to be feared in the SEC if they can get their defense caught up to the offense.
Ole Miss Preview
Ole Miss is the only team with an SEC conference win this season after knocking off Kentucky on the road last week in the first SEC game of the season. The Rebels lost a lot of talent from last season, most importantly, quarterback Jaxson Dart. However, the way that Lane Kiffin perennially reloads in the transfer portal allows Ole Miss to stay competitive even after losing players like Dart. New quarterback Austin Simmons has struggled some this season and is questionable for this game with an injury suffered against Kentucky. The Rebels will be in a tough spot if they are missing Simmons for this game and beyond. However, while Dart is the headlining missing piece from last season, defensive stars like Walter Nolen, Jared Ivey, Chris Paul Jr. and Princely Umanmielen could make an even bigger impact with their departures. Lane Kiffin’s offense seems to click no matter who is at the helm, but the defense in 2024 was the best in Lane Kiffin’s tenure with the Rebels.
Arkansas vs. Ole Miss Pick
My best bet for this game is for Arkansas to go over its team total of 27.5 points. The Razorbacks have put up at least 52 points in each of their first two games, and while this will be a tougher test, the Ole Miss defense has some issues. The Rebels just gave up 23 points to a Kentucky defense led by some terrible quarterback play. Arkansas is much more explosive offensively than Kentucky, and Taylen Green is one of the most underrated signal callers in the nation. The Hogs rank tenth in the nation in offensive EPA/play this season and should gash an Ole Miss defense that ranks 119th in the nation in defensive EPA/rush. This game is likely to turn into a shootout between the two teams, but Arkansas could really surprise some people by hanging a big number and possibly winning this game.
