Southern Miss is a team I’ve been high on since the preseason, and although the Golden Eagles didn’t get us the cover in Week 1 against Mississippi State, they hung around in the game. By the looks of things, Miss State might be better than the market indicated, and I like that Southern Miss has a game against SEC competition under its belt to sharpen up early in the season.
App State got an impressive road win against Charlotte in Week 1, but was very underwhelming last week in a 20-13 win over Lindenwood. Southern Miss put up 38 points in a dominant win over Jackson State, and I believe the Golden Eagles should be able to score in this one.
The spread in this one has been a roller coaster this week. The game was nearly a pick’em at one stage, but started moving heavily in App State’s favor. The reverse line movement in this game is a bit of a head scratcher for me — App State has taken more bets with 59% of the spread tickets and 79% of the moneyline tickets. However, the home dog has received more of the dollars wagered on the spread with 57% of the handle.
Despite the seemingly sharper money coming in on the Golden Eagles, they’ve shifted over the key number of a field goal, and are catching +3.5 points at home. There are a lot of big games to bet on tonight, but this should be a really good under the radar game. I think we’re getting terrific value on Southern Miss at this point, and will happily bet the home dog.
