After the fifth inning of Friday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays, Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Trevor Rogers exited early due to left toe discomfort.
He threw five innings, allowing just one run before leaving the mound due to the injury. Rogers struck out six batters while allowing three hits and issuing four walks, the latter of which was quite uncharacteristic for the veteran.
The left-handed veteran boasts an 8-2 record with a miniscule 1.43 ERA and o.89 WHIP over his 16 appearances this season. Rogers also posts a 23.8% K% with an elite BB% of just 5.5%. While the Orioles’ season was lost long ago, the lefty looks like the top arm in the rotation and has played the best baseball of his career since making his season debut on May 24 after rehabbing a knee subluxation originally suffered over the offseason.
The Orioles are 69-77 on the year and sit last among a very competitive AL East. However, they’ve surged lately and are 8-2 across their last 10 games, so there’s hope for the team building themselves back into a postseason team heading into next season.
