Week 3 of the college football season continues with a fun Friday night slate. These are the best player prop bets to consider on DraftKings Sportsbook for Friday night of Week 3.
Week 3 Prop Bets
Colorado at Houston: Tanner Koziol Anytime TD (+200)
Houston is a home favorite over Colorado as the Buffaloes try to navigate the post-Shedeur Sanders and Travis Hunter era. Colorado lost a lot of NFL talent, particularly on offense, from last season. It brought in Liberty transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman Julian Lewis to compete for the starting quarterback role. However, after he came in to save the game for Colorado last week, Ryan Staub is reportedly going to start for Colorado at quarterback. It has used three different quarterbacks, three different running backs and doesn’t have a single receiver with more than five carries through two games. With so much uncertainty, it’s impossible to bet on any Colorado player props.
My best bet for this game is for Houston tight end Tanner Koziol to score a touchdown. Former Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman has had a solid start to his Houston career, leading the Cougars to a 2-0 start. This win over Colorado would be massive for Houston as it looks to take the program in the right direction after a tough last couple of seasons. Houston has a strong running game, led by Dean Connors, which has helped Weigman thrive in the passing game. His favorite target by far has been Koziol. Through two games, Koziol already has 13 catches for 115 yards and a score. Nobody else on the team has more than five catches. Colorado still has a lot of things to work out, and Houston should be able to jump on the Buffs and score points. The running game should set up the play-action pass game in the red zone, allowing Weigman to hit Koziol for a touchdown.
Kansas State at Arizona: Javin Whatley 50+ Receiving Yards (-102)
Kansas State has had a disastrous start to its season. It took a disappointing loss to Iowa State in Ireland to open the season, and things have only gone downhill from there. The Wildcats squeaked out a three-point win over North Dakota the following week, failing to slow down that FCS offense. Then, last week, they lost as massive favorites against Army at home. They couldn’t stop Army’s rushing attack, and their offense couldn’t stop getting in their own way. With a 1-2 record heading into this game, it seems to be a lost season for Kansas State already. It will take a masterful coaching job from Chris Klieman to keep his players motivated for the rest of the season, which could work in Arizona’s favor in this game.
The Wildcats seem mentally and physically exhausted after the first three weeks of their season. Arizona has just the quarterback who can take advantage of a defense in such a condition. Noah Fifita is in his third season as Arizona’s QB1, and he has put up massive numbers over the past two seasons, helping his old wide receiver, Tetairoa McMillan, become a top-10 NFL draft pick this year. It was against inferior competition, but Fifita showed he can still sling it without McMillan, throwing for 373 yards and five touchdowns against Weber State. There was a massive hole to fill when McMillan left, and the frontrunner for Fifita’s new favorite target is Javin Whatley.
Whatley is a senior who transferred in from Chattanooga prior to this season. He has a lot of experience and has produced at a high level at the FCS level for Chattanooga. He has been Arizona’s receptions leader in both of its games so far, totaling 206 receiving yards across its two games. This Kansas State defense seems defeated, and Fifita will want to let it rip against the Wildcats early and often. The biggest share of those targets should go to Whatley, as they have in the first two games, which should get him at least 50 receiving yards.
