Week 2 of the NFL season has arrived, and we saw multiple shocking fantasy performances from QBs across the league in the first slate of the year. With that in mind, let’s break down my Week 2 start/sit fantasy quarterback picks!

Start ‘Em: Drake Maye (Patriots) at Dolphins
It wasn’t the most impressive outing to start Maye’s sophomore season, but he still managed 15.8 fantasy points in a respectable effort. New England couldn’t get anything going on that ground all day long against Las Vegas, which forced the UNC product to air it out. Maye completed 30 of 46 attempts for 287 yards and a touchdown, also throwing an interception.
Where Maye didn’t make much of his typical impact was running the ball, as he took four carries for only 11 yards. That should change on Sunday, as he’s proven to be one of the better dual-threat quarterbacks in the league. As for his matchup, on paper it doesn’t get much easier than the Miami Dolphins, who were just absolutely picked apart by… Daniel Jones. The former first-rounder racked up 298 total yards and three touchdowns. If Jones can do that, Maye should be just fine. Fire him up as a low-end QB1.
Sit ‘Em: C.J. Stroud (Texans) vs. Buccaneers
We are approaching “C.J. Stroud may just not be that good at football” territory rapidly in Houston. Yes, the third-year QB’s offensive line did him no favors against the Rams, but his numbers were quite underwhelming, to say the least.
Stroud entered the season opener hopeful to bounce back from a disappointing sophomore campaign, but his struggles carried over. The Texans’ signal caller completed 19 passes for 188 yards and no touchdowns, tallying an interception. Stroud’s supporting cast outside of Nico Collins is lackluster thanks to a myriad of injuries, and it doesn’t seem like we’re headed for drastic improvement until his playmakers return.
The Bucs don’t necessarily boast one of the most formidable pass defenses in the league, but they’re capable, which is all the reason you need to avoid starting Stroud in Week 2.

Start ‘Em: Justin Fields (Jets) vs. Bills
Justin Fields, I owe you an apology. I wasn’t familiar with your game.
Well, I was, but I admittedly had concerns about Fields’ fantasy prospects heading into a matchup against a stout Steelers defense.
Those concerns proved to be quite trivial. New York’s new signal caller proved to be a scoring machine, racking up one passing touchdown and a pair on the ground, finishing with 256 total yards and 29.5 fantasy points. While I don’t expect another near 30-point outing for the dual-threat QB against Buffalo, Fields’ rushing upside clearly puts him in fantasy starting territory until proven otherwise.
Sit ‘Em: Aaron Rodgers (Steelers) vs. Seahawks.
While both Fields and Rodgers excelled in the Week 1 Jets-Steelers quarterback revenge battle, I only expect fantasy success to carry over for one of them.
Spoiler alert, it’s not the 41-year-old.
Rodgers was fantastic in his regular-season debut for Pittsburgh, racking up 244 passing yards and four touchdowns. That said, it’s not realistic to expect the veteran to record more than a couple TDs on a weekly basis, especially considering how much Arthur Smith wants to establish the run.
Rodgers’ lack of rushing upside makes him a risky fantasy option moving forward, and he draws a tricky Week 2 matchup against a Seahawks defense that just held Brock Purdy and company to only 17 points.
Those are my start ’em, sit ’em Week 2 fantasy football quarterback picks! Stay tuned for more fantasy advice throughout the remainder of Week 2.
