Is Kyle Pitts a priority waiver add going into fantasy football Week 2?

Kyle Pitts is a must-add on the waiver wire heading into Week 2. The tight end is coming off a 2024 season that saw him record 602 yards and four touchdowns.

He got off to a decent start in 2025, recording seven receptions for 59 yards against the Buccaneers. His 12.9 FPTS in Week 1 were the seventh-most among tight ends on DraftKings.

The biggest takeaway for Pitts is that he finished second on the team in targets with eight. In 2024, Pitts received eight targets or more in only two of his 17 games. Drake London had a whopping 15 in Week 1, but we already knew that he would command a huge target share. There are injury concerns for London after Sunday’s game, which should propel Pitts into being the number one option in this passing attack if the wideout were to miss time.

Pitts needed to find a way to finish second on this team in targets and catches to be elite in fantasy, so he’s off to a good start in that regard. A season ago, his 74 targets were the fourth-most for the Falcons.

Hopefully for fantasy owners, Michael Penix Jr. continues to go the way of Pitts early and often. The Falcons have bounced around from quarterback to quarterback during his time in Atlanta, and will be hoping to find some stability with Penix entering his second season. After one week, Atlanta is not hiding that they want to get Pitts heavily involved in this offense as a pass catcher, and the connection between QB and TE is off to a great start, connecting on over 87% of targets to Pitts against Tampa Bay.

Despite already being in his fifth NFL season, you get the sense that at only 24 years old, we haven’t seen the best of what he can do. He showed what he can be in the league with his 1,000+ yard rookie season, but the three seasons following have been underwhelming. Can 2025 be the season that Pitts hits new heights? If he does, you will want him on your fantasy team, even if it’s on the bench.

Yes, it’s still very early, but the former Florida Gator is on pace for 119 receptions and 1,003 receiving yards this season. There aren’t too many players at his position who have the ceiling that Pitts is capable of if he finally makes the next step in his career. I expect him to be a focal point of this Falcons offense this season and a security blanket for Penix.
