The Giants and Diamondbacks play the final game of their three-game series on Wednesday, Sep. 10. It’s the first of two series in September between these clubs. They’ll meet again on Sep. 15-17.
San Francisco is a -115 favorite, while Arizona is -105 on DraftKings Sportsbook. The game total is set at over/under eight runs.
Here’s my prediction and pick for Wednesday’s Diamondbacks vs. Giants matchup.
Diamondbacks vs. Giants prediction
The Giants and Diamondbacks are neck and neck in the NL West standings, but their chances at the division title are almost nonexistent. For either team to make the postseason, they need to earn a Wild Card spot.
Arizona is slightly behind San Francisco, as both teams are not in the third and final spot at the moment. The Cubs and Padres have a firm grip on the top two seeds with the Mets in third, a handful of games ahead of the Giants in fourth. With the regular season almost over, the teams need some help from other clubs in order to reach the postseason.
Of course, it starts with themselves. The Giants will start Carson Seymour, who has started just two games prior to this. He has a 4.25 ERA in 29.2 innings, and has starts of four earned runs and one earned run.
This is his rookie season, and he recently became a starter in the majors, so this could be a difficult matchup for him. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks are starting veteran Eduardo Rodriguez.
Rodriguez has a 5.22 ERA through 131 innings. He’s struggled since arriving in Arizona last year, holding a 5.04 ERA in 50 innings in 2024. On the brightside, the Giants are batting .216 against lefties this year, compared to .248 against righties.
Perhaps the veteran could slow down San Francisco and help his team gain some games in the Wild Card race.

Neither pitcher gives me much confidence, even with the Giants’ .216 average against left-handed pitching. Rodriguez will still allow runs.
As for Seymour, it’s hard to trust rookies, especially late in the season. These are critical games, so there’s a lot of pressure on a pitcher who is making his third career MLB start.
There should be a lot of runs. Take the over.
