Russell Wilson’s ($5,100) debut with the Giants didn’t go smoothly in Week 1, as New York lost to the Commanders 21-6. The veteran only completed 17 of his 37 attempts for 168 yards and Wilson didn’t throw for any touchdowns. Despite this poor result, Wilson will remain the Giants’ starting quarterback for this Sunday’s matchup vs. the Cowboys, per head coach Brian Daboll.
With Wilson under center, Malik Nabers ($7,100) caught five passes for 71 yards, resulting in 12.1 FPTS for the receiver. While this was a subpar fantasy performance for Nabers, his usage was elite with Wilson at quarterback, as Nabers led the team with 12 targets and a huge 37.5% target share. Notably, Nabers saw three red-zone targets and one target over 20 yards.
As it was last year, New York’s game plan was clearly to feed Nabers as much as possible and the heavy volume should continue this Sunday with Wilson continuing to start. Yes, the veteran’s inefficiency as a passer in Week 1 was concerning, but Wilson can only improve from this rough start and Week 2 presents a compelling matchup against a Dallas defense that allowed the third-most yards per pass last season (7.2).
Nabers exposed the Cowboys for 20.7 FPTS per game in his two matchups with the division rival last season and he brings similar upside this Sunday. Nabers obviously remains a locked in WR1 for season-long formats and for DFS, he is a terrific GPP target, as many may avoid him after his quiet Week 1 showing.
