The San Francisco 49ers beat the Seattle Seahawks to open the 2025 NFL season, but the victory came at a cost as tight end George Kittle suffered an injury in the contest. Now a day removed from the hamstring issue which left him sidelined in the first half, the latest update indicates the star will miss three to five weeks with the injury.
The loss is a massive one for the 49ers, a team which has already dealt with significant injuries throughout the leadup to the new season. Wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk remains sidelined as he rehabs a torn ACL while fellow wideout Jauan Jennings and star halfback Christian McCaffrey each fought through calf issues to play in Week 1.
The 49ers’ passing attack was likely to run through Kittle this season as he remained the clear-cut top receiving threat on the roster. He hauled in 4-of-4 targets for 25 yards and a touchdown to begin the day in Week 1 before the hamstring injury occurred, and while Luke Farrell is the next man up at the position, replacing Kittle’s production will prove challenging.
In the meantime, bettors and fantasy managers can expect second-year wideout Ricky Pearsall to receive a greater target share while Kittle remains out. McCaffrey will almost certainly see an expansive role in the receiving game as well.
