How Does Jaguars Trading Tank Bigsby to Eagles Affect His Fantasy Outlook?

Week 1 of the NFL season isn’t even finished, and we already have a trade. The Jacksonville Jaguars have traded running back Tank Bigsby to the defending champion Philadelphia Eagles. This is a significant shake-up for Bigsby’s fantasy football value.

Bigsby was projected to start the year in a committee with Travis Etienne and rookie Bhayshul Tuten. In their Week 1 win over the Panthers, Etienne had 16 carries for 143 yards, looking like the alpha RB1. Bigsby carried it five times for 12 yards, while Tuten had three carries for 11. Now, with Bigsby shipped off to Philly, Tuten’s fantasy stock has gone up significantly as the clear backup to Etienne. With their love for the run game, he could be a league-winning bench stash if Etienne missed any significant time. Tuten should be a popular waiver-wire add after being in dart-throw range of redraft leagues in preseason.

The outlook is murkier for Bigsby. After a prosperous 2024 where Bigsby led the team in rushing, he clearly lost ground on Etienne. Now he heads to an Eagles team with a clear bell cow in Saquon Barkley. It’s being reported that this trade will have no effect on current backup RB Will Shipley, who the Eagles still like, and that Bigsby is projected to have more of a role on special teams.

The Eagles sent out fifth and sixth-round picks to acquire Bigsby. Keep an eye on how things shake out down the Jacksonville and Philadelphia depth charts after this one. It may end up changing your fantasy season.
