9/8/25 UPDATE: Trea Turner has been placed on IL with a Grade 1 hamstring strain and the team is hopeful he can return for the postseason.
UPDATE: Trea Turner has officially been diagnosed with a right hamstring strain and will be further evaluated. The Phillies have not released a timeline.
Trea Turner left the Phillies’ matchup against the Miami Marlins today in the top of the seventh inning. The three-time All-Star reached base on an error and made an immediate turn to the dugout after pulling up late. He was replaced by Edmundo Sosa.
The immediate concern here is if Turner suffered another injury to his hamstring, which derailed his season last year. The Phillies’ shortstop has been amid a really impressive season in his third season in Philadelphia. Turner leads the National League with 178 hits and a .305 batting average. He has 14 home runs, 68 RBIs, and 36 stolen bases while posting a .812 OPS. This all comes while making some significant progress in his defense at the shortstop position.
The Phillies entered the day with an 83-59 record and hold a seven-game lead in the National League East. They still have their eyes on securing a first-round bye for the postseason and that’d be the case if the season ended today, with only the Brewers having a better record in the National League.
Losing Turner for any period of time would be a huge hit to the Phillies’ outlook, especially with there being just 20 games left in the regular season. Currently, the Phillies are the World Series favorites at +450 odds on DraftKings Sportsbook. They also hold +230 odds of winning the National League.
This also comes just a few weeks after Cy Young candidate Zack Wheeler was shut down for the season due to a blood clot issue.
