UPDATE: London is considered day-to-day with a shoulder sprain.
Drake London left the Atlanta Falcons’ Week 1 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and did not return after initially being listed as questionable with the issue.
London suffered the injury when attempting to pull in the go-ahead touchdown on a pass from Michael Penix Jr. The USC product appeared to make the touchdown reception, but it was called incomplete because the ball leaked out as he went to the ground. Atlanta challenged the play, but the ruling on the field was upheld.
Luckily, Penix was able to finish off the drive in a heroic quarterback run in which he stretched out to break the goal line and managed to stay on his feet long enough on fourth down.
Tampa Bay was able to answer with a touchdown of its own as Emeka Egbuka scored his second touchdown of the game on a 25-yard strike with 59 seconds remaining in the game. Tampa Bay missed the extra point to leave the door open and give the Falcons a chance.
Penix got the ball back and led the Falcons on his second straight impressive drive with the game on the line, but London was not on the field for this effort. Falcons kicker Younghoe Koo had a chance at a game-tying 44-yard field goal as time expired, but he missed the kick and dropped the Falcons to 0-1 on the season.
The concern with London is surrounding his shoulder, but more updates will be added as they are provided by the team. Before leaving the matchup, he had tallied eight receptions for 55 yards. Fifteen targets were sent his direction in the matchup.
