What happened to Byron Buxton? Injury update for Twins OF 9/7/25

It hasn’t been a fun season for the Minnesota Twins. Well outside the playoff picture, as fans call for the team to be sold, the situation in the Twin Cities is looking dire. But the one constant positive has been Byron Buxton. Unfortunately, he had to be removed from Sunday’s game with a knee injury.

For a player with Buxton’s extensive injury history, any notification about his injury status is cause for alarm. But in this case, he is being diagnosed with a knee contusion after being hit by a pitch. It doesn’t appear to be a severe injury, and with the season all but over, the Twins had no reason to leave him in the game and risk further harm.

Buxton, 31, is in the midst of a career year. He set a new career high in home runs today with a leadoff bomb for the history books.

This gave Buxton a 30 home run/20 stolen base season, the first time a Twin has done that since Kirby Puckett. Twins fans will be praying that their one beacon of hope can return to the lineup soon to add on to his career year.
