NFL Week 1 is almost in the books, pending the Sunday night and Monday night matchups, but the opening odds for Week 2 are up on DraftKings Sportsbook and it’s time to give a looky-loo.
There is one game on Thursday. There are 13 games on Sunday, and there are two Monday night games.

Thursday Game, September 11

Both of these Super Bowl contenders took care of business in Week 1. Washington triumphed 21-6 over a New York Giants team that is offensively challenged but has a fearsome defensive line. The Packers are one of the most balanced teams in the NFL, and their 27-13 win over the Detroit Lions was mighty impressive.

The Liam Coen era began well in Jacksonville with a 26-10 win over the Carolina Panthers. The Jaguars face a much stiffer test on the road against an explosive Cincinnati Bengals offense. Both the Jaguars and Bengals have suspect defenses and potential on offense, so it’s no surprise that the total is over 50 points.

New York opens up the 2025 campaign against two divisional rivals … and on the road to boot. The Giants mustered 231 yards of total offense in Week 1. The Dallas Cowboys defense was Charmin-soft last season, but the unit played well against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 1. The Cowboys offense is potent, so the Jaxson Dart countdown clock could be hitting 0:00 sooner than expected.

Usually, a team that has yet to play in a week won’t have odds up for the next week. Despite Detroit getting humbled in Green Bay Week 1 and the Bears playing on Monday night, oddsmakers are like, “Don’t care. Doesn’t matter. Whatever. Why are you talking to me?” Detroit returns to the friendly confines of a dome after playing outdoors in Week 1. Against a division rival at home, this should be a good bounce back spot for Detroit in its home opener.

The Rams gutted out a 14-9 win at home over the Houston Texans. Let’s give some credit to the Texans defense. Now the Rams travel to Tennessee to take on a Titans team that played well on defense in Denver. The offense, though, has issues with a rookie quarterback but the Broncos defense is one of the best units in the league. Tennessee could find more success in this one in its home opener.
Patriots at Dolphins – 1 p.m. ET

New England lost its opener to the Las Vegas Raiders, 20-13. Both teams were able to pass the ball well, but both teams also had nine penalties. Yuck. Drake Maye averaged 5.5 yards per pass while Geno Smith averaged 8.8. Star cornerback Christian Gonzalez did not play in Week 1. Now the Patriots will try to bounce back in Miami, and there’s a good chance that happens because the Dolphins looked like they had no flippers in Week 1, getting pummeled by a Daniel Jones-led team, 33-8. The offense could only muster 133 yards passing. Let me repeat. Miami got pummeled by over three touchdowns by a team quarterbacked by Daniel Jones.

San Francisco eked out a 17-13 win over the Seahawks in Seattle. Ain’t no shame in that as Seattle is a tough place to play. The Saints defense held Kyler Murray to 130 yards passing but allowed 146 rushing yards. That’s a ruh roh against a 49ers team that loves to pound the rock. On offense, Spencer Rattler threw for 208 yards, but he does not invoke much confidence and will now have to face a 49ers defense that held Sam Darnold to 150 yards.

Buffalo is currently playing on Sunday Night Football, but the oddsmakers don’t care. Buffalo is a Super Bowl contender. New York? Not quite toilet bowl but more like a Chipotle bowl. The Jets offense was impressive in Week 1 against a good Pittsburgh Steelers defense. Justin Fields threw a touchdown and rushed in two. Things that make you go hmmmm, especially since this is the home opener for New York.

The Steelers offense has a competent quarterback. Yahtzee!! I don’t care that Aaron Rodgers is 41 years old and can barely move in the pocket. The dude can still sling it and dissect defenses. Seattle has a good defense, and limited a potent 49ers offense, and the unit should travel well. It’s the offensive side of the ball that is worrisome. Sam Darnold sees ghosts when blitzed and you just know Blitzburgh will be trying to conjure all the ghosts in the afterlife to make an appearance.

Denver almost made millions of survival pool participants curl up and cry in Week 1, as the Broncos led only 13-12 after three quarters. But whhhheeeeeeeeewwwwwwwwww, 20-12 win. Hey, a win is a win. Gotta give props to the Tennessee defense that intercepted Bo Nix twice and held him to 176 yards passing. Indianapolis looked like world beaters in Week 1. Unfortunately, that world turned out to be a pond because the Miami Dolphins looked horrific. I have a not-so-sneaky suspicion that the Broncos aren’t as bad as they looked in Week 1 while the Colts aren’t as good as they looked.

There was so much optimism for the Panthers after Bryce Young showed some things in the second half of last season. That optimism was squashed like a cigarette butt getting mashed in the ashtray as Young went 18-of-35 for 154 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Now Carolina has to travel to Arizona. The Cardinals are in a great spot for strong offensive showing against a still porous Panthers defense.

A Super Bowl rematch. Yippee! Philadelphia started the title defense with a 24-20 win over a feisty Dallas Cowboys team. Kansas City ended last season as losers, and started the new season as losers. Life is good! Yes, I’m a Raiders fan. This game is in Kansas City, but the Chiefs are home dogs because the Eagles got more dawgs.

Atlanta lost its home opener to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 23-20. No run game could be established but Michael Penix Jr. did play well, going 27-of-42 for 298 yards and a touchdown. The defense played relatively well, limiting the Tampa Bay running game while Baker Mayfield went 17-of-32 for only 167 yards. He threw three touchdowns, though. Now Atlanta has to try and bounce back in Minnesota. Once again, the oddsmaker don’t care and have the Vikings as 4.5 favorites despite Minnesota playing on Monday night.
Monday Night Games – September 15

Tampa Bay eked out the 23-20 win in Week 1 on the road. Now Tampa Bay has to travel to Houston for a prime time game. The Houston defense was formidable in Week 1, but the offense got stymied by the Rams. The offensive line was … well, offensive, allowing three sacks and the 41.2% pressure rate was seventh-most so far in Week 1.

Year two of the Jim Harbaugh era began in great fashion with the 27-21 win over the Chiefs. Year one Pete Carroll era began warm and tingly with the 20-13 victory in New England. Now the two eras go head-to-head in Las Vegas on Monday night. The Chargers look like legitimate contenders while the Raiders are in a similar situation to last year’s Chargers, a team that is retooling in the image of its head coach. But that process takes time.
