Josh Allen can throw a beautiful ball. You don’t get an MVP as a quarterback without elite passing numbers. But it was his legs that carried him over the finish line for the award, running 102 times for 531 yards and 12 touchdowns across 16 games. He added an extra 105 yards and two scores in the postseason.
But if there was one team that consistently had him under wraps on the ground last year, it was the Ravens. In their regular-season matchup, Allen ran five times for 21 total yards while losing a fumble. He did run for a pair of goal-line scores in the playoff matchup, which came with only 20 yards on 10 carries. Baltimore’s emphasis on gap control and the presence of Roquan Smith gives them a significant edge when it comes to keeping Allen in the pocket and away from huge gains on the ground.
With a high total on the board, Allen will get his through the air. But don’t count on a big ground game for the former MVP. Smith and his defensive cohorts have that part of the game locked down.
