Michigan vs. Oklahoma best prop bets
Justice Haynes 70+ rushing yards (-114)
Quarterback Bryce Underwood has gotten plenty of attention from Michigan fans this summer, and for good reason. However, Justice Haynes is the engine of this offense. The running back was in peak form last week against New Mexico, rushing for 159 yards and three touchdowns. It’s not exactly a shocking result for the junior. Over two seasons with Alabama, Haynes averaged an efficient 5.9 yards per carry. In a bigger role this season, he’s poised to emerge as one of the nation’s top backs.
Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables loves ramping up the pressure on opposing quarterbacks. He should feel even more inclined to do so against the inexperienced Underwood on Saturday. As a result, Michigan’s best method to move the ball might be on the ground. It’s worth noting that the Sooners allowed at least 100 rushing yards to nine different opponents last season. Anything close to that mark for the Wolverines tonight will likely involve a heavy dose of Haynes.
John Mateer 242+ passing yards (-120)
An early frontrunner for this year’s Heisman Award, John Mateer could become a household name. After all, not many college quarterbacks possess an NFL-caliber arm combined with elite scrambling ability. Last season with Washington State, the junior threw for 3,139 yards and 29 touchdowns while rushing for 826 yards and 15 TDs. Similar production in the formidable SEC is unlikely, if not impossible. Still, Mateer is someone that’s capable of wrecking any defensive coordinator’s game plan.
Oklahoma’s gunslinger got off to a terrific start last week, throwing for 392 yards and three scores vs. Illinois State. Michigan on Saturday presents a whole different kind of challenge. Running could be a luxury for Mateer and his teammates against this fearsome defensive unit. In 2024, UM held opponents to the fourth-fewest rushing yards in all of college football (90.7). Assuming that level of success continues against the run, OU will have to attack through the air. The Wolverines surrendered 216.3 passing yards per game last year. That’s not a bad mark, but it was somewhat inflated by playing a few subpar opponents. Keeping that in mind, I’m expecting a productive passing day for Mateer and the Sooners.
