UPDATE: The criteria of Smith’s injury mean that he qualifies for DraftKings Sportsbook’s Early Exit program. Eligible customers who took his lines in single bets will receive cash credits within 24 hours, while parlays including Smith’s props will see those legs voided and the total payout recalculated.
During Wednesday’s game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Pittsburgh Pirates, catcher Will Smith exited the contest due to an apparent injury.
Smith took a foul ball to the hand in the top of the third inning before exiting the game. No update has been provided by the team yet regarding severity.
The Dodgers trailed the Pirates 2-0 at the time Smith was subbed out.
The 30-year-old catcher slashes .296/.405/.497 with 63 runs, 61 RBI and 17 home runs in 109 games this year. His stats look great as one of the best catchers in the game at the plate, but Smith’s presence behind the dish while calling games would also prove difficult to replace if he misses significant time.
The Dodgers are 78-60 and still held a three-game lead in the NL West prior to Wednesday’s game.
