SP Logan Webb, Giants @ Rockies; $9,000
The Giants are in Colorado tonight for a meeting with the Rockies at Coors Field. Don’t panic though, there’s still reason to take a pitcher in this game. With Logan Webb on the mound for the visitors, the ace should give his team a significant advantage and anchor your MLB DFS lineups this evening. The right-hander holds a respectable 3.16 ERA and 1.21 WHIP this season, but his 187 strikeouts are what really help the stud’s ceiling. He averages 20.0 FPPG, the second-most on tonight’s slate, but ranks fifth on the salary sheet at $9,000. That means there’s value to be had, and while the Rockies’ offense looked potent for stretches following the All-Star Game back in mid-July, they rank 25th in OPS at .679 over the last two weeks with the eighth-most strikeouts in that span. Webb went seven innings while allowing six hits and one earned run, also striking out seven in his lone appearance against Colorado for 25 fantasy points. He can do it once more this evening.
SS Zach Neto, Angels @ Royals; $4,700
I considered playing Jeremy Pena and Bobby Witt Jr. tonight, but Zach Neto comes in with a lower salary than both and pretty comparable production. The Angels’ shortstop averages 9.2 FPPG this season with 9.5 FPPG across his last 10 games, but he crossed the double-digit mark in six of those contests with multiple 14 and 19-point outings. He slashes .273/.328/.484 against right-handers with 18 of his 25 homers in that split, plus 79 runs and 60 RBI on the season. He faces off against righty Michael Lorenzen (4.62 ERA, 1.35 WHIP, 100 SO) of the Royals, who’s really an average pitcher at best and doesn’t truly excel in any particular area. In a neutral-to-positive matchup, I like Neto do deliver value at this $4,700 salary.
OF Kyle Tucker, Cubs vs. Braves; $5,700
I know what you might think about Kyle Tucker following his recent slump. Sure, the guy truly struggled for a significant stretch of our recent memory, but the star outfielder finally seems like he’s waking up and once again approaching his early-season form. King Tuck averages 9.3 FPPG this year but that mark increases to 11.9 FPPG over his last 10 games with six double-digit performances, including an 18-point game and a 39-point bomb. He’s slashing .378/.477/.730 over that span with 14 hits, nine runs, eight RBI and three homers in 37 at-bats, so I feel fairly confident saying Tucker will look good through the home stretch of the campaign. Plus, his $5,700 salary remains lower than it was prior to his slump. Tucker’s splits against lefties look pretty close to those against right-handers with a .267 average and .813 OPS, plus seven of his 21 homers. He can get the better of Braves lefty Joey Wentz (4.92 ERA, 1.42 WHIP, 67 SO) this evening.
