Of all players in the WNBA, Plum ranks fourth with 20.1 PPG. She’s the clear-cut top dog on this Sparks team as the offense flows through her, allowing the former No. 1 pick to pace the team with 5.8 assists per contest as well. However, her shooting numbers aren’t exactly the most spectacular at 43.4% from the field and 35.9% from three-point range, the latter of which remains the second-worst mark of Plum’s eight-year career.
Tonight’s matchup with the Storm doesn’t look like an easy one by any means. Seattle holds a 22-19 record on the season and boasts a top-five defense in terms of opponent points per game (79.9). They also rank seventh in both opponent field goal and three-point percentage, as well as sixth in opponent free-throw attempts per contest. That last stat is one to watch since Plum gets to the line at a high rate with nearly six attempts per contest, knocking those down at an 89.0% clip. Where pace is concerned, the Sparks fall first while the Storm come in at sixth.
The matchup looks somewhat tough, but Plum also hasn’t seen her typical level of production in recent games. She posted 18 and 12 points across her last two outings while taking just nine and 10 shot attempts in those game, her two fewest marks since August 9. Defenses clearly key on her and Seattle won’t prove an exception tonight. Still, she’s expected to take center stage and carry the load for this Sparks team as they battle to keep the season alive.
All things considered, it’s probably best to temper expectations slightly and take Plum to stay under 18.5 points at -120 odds instead of pushing for greater value.
