Roughly 20 minutes before first pitch of Monday’s game between the San Diego Padres and Baltimore Orioles, a late scratch will keep Fernando Tatis Jr. out of the lineup.
The reason for his removal from the lineup seems to be lower half tightness, per MLB.com’s Andres Soto.
As originally reported yesterday by the San Diego Union-Tribune’s Kevin Acee, Tatis Jr. experienced that tightness in what seemed to be his right hamstring during last night’s game.
The Padres outfielder slashes .264/.370/.430 this season in what’s seemed like a bit of a down year on the stat sheet, though his production still remains better than most players around the league. He’s tallied 135 hits in 134 games with 18 home runs, 57 RBIs and 93 runs. Tatis Jr. has also stolen 27 bases as well.
With Tatis Jr. now out, Bryce Johnson takes his place in the outfield against the Orioles on Monday.
The Padres are 76-61 this season as they fight their way in a tough NL West. Ahead of tonight’s game, they sit two games shy of the division lead but maintain a 2.5-game cushion for a Wild Card berth to the MLB Postseason.
