A combined 73 points through two games of group play is surreal, especially when the 39-point game came against a deep and talented defensive group. Doncic bullied his way to 20 free throw attempts against the French. That’s a number to rival prime Shaquille O’Neal. His mastery of shot creation is rivaled only by his patience and stamina. Doubled-teamed constantly, he found ways to set up his teammates consistently while taking advantage of almost every 1v1 chance.
France had a formula that should have slowed him down. Bilal Coulibaly is an excellent perimeter defender, Zaccharie Risacher can hold his own, and Alex Sarr protects the rim well. But it didn’t seem to matter. And if the French didn’t stand a chance of keeping his scoring down, I don’t think that Belgium will fare any better.
