There are just two WNBA games tonight. The Atlanta Dream will host the Dallas Wings, with the pair of teams trending in opposite directions. A closer matchup is expected in the later game as the Los Angeles Sparks face off with the Indiana Fever.
Just over two weeks remain until the playoffs begin, with about eight games remaining on each team’s schedule. The Minnesota Lynx and Las Vegas Aces clinched a playoff berth, while the Connecticut Sun, Chicago Sky and Dallas Wings are eliminated from contention. While there will be busier days of basketball ahead, here are my three favorite WNBA prop bets on DraftKings Sportsbook for tonight’s games.
Allisha Gray Over 16.5 Points (-135)
It has been an excellent season from Allisha Gray, who headlines the production for the Atlanta Dream. The 30-year-old is averaging a career-high 18.7 points per game along with 5.4 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game. Gray has tallied over 16.5 points in 21 of the 38 games this year, 12 of the 18 home games, and seven of her last 11 games played. She is averaging 18.3 points per game across the three matchups with the Wings.
Dallas has some significant defensive concerns that have been further magnified in recent games. On the season overall, the Wings are allowing 87.8 points per game, which is the second-worst rate in the league. This number increased to 91.4 points per game over the past 10 matchups. The Wings rank 11th in opponents’ field goal percentage, 13th in opponents’ three-point percentage and 11th in defensive rating.
Atlanta enters this matchup as 15.5-point favorites and will be looking to put this game out of reach early. Look for Gray to be at the heart of this and play in attack mode. Dallas has one of the worst three-point defenses in the league, with opponents shooting 42.9% since the start of August. Gray is shooting 38.8% from beyond the three-point arc this season on a career-high 6.2 shots per game. Expect the Dream star to capitalize on the favorable defensive matchup and tally over 16.5 points for the 22nd time this year.
Rhyne Howard Over 4.5 Assists (-120)
After a knee injury left her sidelined for a month, Rhyne Howard made her return to the Dream lineup and has settled back in. The three-time All-Star is averaging 16.3 points, 4.6 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game. Howard has tallied over 4.5 assists in 14 of the 27 games she has played, including posting a season-high 10 assists against the Wings.
The most notable change on this Atlanta roster has been the injury to Jordin Canada. The two-time WNBA champion leads the Dream with 5.7 assists per game and primarily serves as the point guard for the team. Canada went down with a hamstring injury during an Aug. 10 matchup. She has been sidelined since and will continue to miss tonight’s game against the Wings.
Howard is not a true point guard, but has filled Canada’s shoes fairly effectively. She has tallied at least six assists in five of the seven games since Canada’s injury. Dallas holds the same level of defensive concern mentioned above and is playing at the fastest pace in the WNBA in August. Look for Howard to continue handling the bulk of the playmaking responsibilities and tally over 4.5 assists for the third straight game and 15th time this season.
Kelsey Plum Over 20.5 Points (-110)
In the final matchup of tonight’s WNBA slate, the Los Angeles Sparks will host the Indiana Fever. The Sparks currently sit just outside the playoff picture in the ninth seed with a 17-19 record. This is an important final stretch, and Kelsey Plum will continue to be at the epicenter of the production. There were some growing pains at the start of the season, but the four-time All-Star has settled in and delivered.
Plum is averaging 20.4 points and 5.9 assists per game. She has tallied 20+ points in 23 of the 35 games this season and is averaging 22 points per game across her three matchups with the Fever. Indiana has had some defensive struggles this season, giving up 82.8 points per game, which ranks ninth in the WNBA. This number has increased to 86.8 across the past 10 games.
Plum enters this matchup having scored at least 20 points in six straight games. She has reached this total in 12 of the 17 home games and has shot 54% from the field and 52.6% on three-point attempts during matchups with Indiana. With just eight games remaining in the regular season, every matchup is crucial as the Sparks attempt to clinch a postseason berth. Plum was brought here to serve as the centerpiece for these exact types of moments.
