This is the second contest of a three-game series in New York between the Mets and visiting Miami Marlins.

Edward Cabrera is scheduled to pitch for Miami, while David Peterson is slated to start for New York.

Marlins at Mets prediction, preview

Edward Cabrera used to be just another statistic — a flamethrower with no idea where his pitches were going. However, he’s certainly leveled up this season. His walk rate used to hover in the 12-15% range, but it’s now down to 7.9% this year. And Cabrera hasn’t sacrificed his bat-missing ability; his strikeout rate is 26.1%, while the swinging strike rate sits at 12.8%. He’s allowed just 12 home runs in 124.2 innings, with a barrel rate of 7.5%. Both his ERA and FIP are in the 3.3 range. Oh, did I forget to mention that his fastball averages 96.9 mph?

Cabrera has had more trouble with lefties, as his K-BB% is 14.7% compared to 22.2% against righties. The FIP is also more than a run higher against lefties. He’s been mostly neutral with his splits.

In 23 starts this season, Cabrera has allowed more than three earned runs five times. He’s gone at least six innings in seven starts. This will be the first time he faces the Mets this season.

Against right-handed pitching, the Mets strike out at the 21st-highest rate, but they post the third-best ISO. Their wOBA ranks fifth-best in MLB.

David Peterson, a lefty, is averaging 92.4 mph on his fastball. His ERA is 3.18, while his FIP is 3.32. Peterson has only allowed nine home runs in 150 innings this season, with a barrel rate of 6.5%, a ground ball rate of 56%, and a launch angle of just 4.6 degrees.

Eight of the nine home runs have come off the bat of righties, and his K-BB% is a minuscule 8.6%. Peterson has been excellent against lefties, posting a 27.5% K-BB% and a 1.71 FIP.

In 25 starts this season, Peterson has allowed more than three earned runs only four times. He’s gone at least six innings in 16 starts. His first start of the season came against Miami on the road, where he went six innings, walked three, struck out nine, and allowed two earned runs on five hits.

Against left-handed pitching, the Marlins strike out at the 25th-highest rate and post the 30th-best ISO. Their wOBA ranks 28th in MLB.

As for the bullpens, Miami has the 24th-lowest FIP, while New York ranks 16th-lowest since Aug. 1.

Marlins at Mets pick, best bet

I like this to be a good, old fashioned pitcher’s duel with the home team taking care of business.

Best Bet: Mets -1.5 and Under 8 runs (+320)
