Colorado Rockies vs. Chicago Cubs prediction, pick for Friday 8/29/25

Cade Horton opposes Germán Márquez at Coors Field, first pitch 8:40 ET, dry 82°, light seven-mph breeze to right. Coors carries a 2025 run factor near 1.32 and an elevated homer factor, inflating posted totals across markets tonight. Below, I’ve got my preview, prediction, and best bet for this Friday night baseball game between the Rockies and the Cubs.

Here’s how I’ll play it. I’ll be pumping out these predictions for individual games all season, with plenty of coverage here on DraftKings Network. Follow my handle @dansby_edits for more betting plays.

Rockies vs. Cubs prediction, preview

Horton enters 8-4 with a 2.88 ERA, 1.16 WHIP, eight homers allowed, and outstanding first-inning suppression tonight at altitude. His August heater reads 4-1 with a 0.72 ERA and 7.0 K/9, driven by called strikes low this month. Colorado’s offense ranks twenty-ninth in runs and slashes .238/.295/.390, piling strikeouts and shallow on-base traffic consistently. Márquez returns with a 5.67 ERA and 1.64 WHIP, including a 1-7, 5.31 home line at altitude. Tucker steadies Chicago with a .377 OBP and 14.7% walk rate, and disciplined swing decisions. He’s .297 with two doubles, three homers, five walks, and seven RBIs across his last ten.

The pushback leans on Coors, Chicago’s recent skid, and bullpen attrition, arguing for late offense and chaos tonight. I erase it with game-state math, current production patterns, and fielding that erases extra bases. Chicago scored four or fewer in eight of nine, recently, while still winning situationally with baserunning and defense. Colorado cashed five straight unders, averages 3.7 runs, and ranks thirtieth in OBP at .295 against right-handers. Horton’s leash caps exposure; he topped 75 pitches only once across his last five starts this month. He has not allowed a first-inning hit in five consecutive starts, matching his strike-throwing reputation and suppressing early fireworks.

Cubs vs. Rockies pick, best bet

Chicago sits 10-1 when priced -230 or shorter; eight of last ten road games, including NL West trips, landed under. Colorado brings five straight unders, and the matchup shape aligns with muted inning lengths rather than crooked numbers tonight. Within that lens, Pete Crow-Armstrong rides a three-game hit streak and a .250 five-game stretch with one double, trimming burst. Nico Hoerner is .333 across five with a homer and four RBIs, and his 7.2% strikeouts consistently shorten innings. Final bet: Under 11 (-110).

This handicap stacks edges everywhere that matter for a total on the road: command, contact profiles, and disciplined run prevention. Chicago ranks first in walks allowed, limiting free traffic, while Colorado’s .295 OBP starves rallies; Chicago’s 3.83 ERA enforces suppression. Horton keeps the ball off barrels, and Márquez returns under restriction against a patient lineup that works leverage nightly. Brenton Doyle has hits in eight of his last ten at Coors, yet his 24.8% strikeout rate still halts extensions. I lock the under, ride elite opening sequences, and fade inflated altitude tax with swagger. Bank it.

Best bet: Rockies vs. Cubs u11.0 total runs (-115)
