Jason Alexander, Houston Astros vs. Colorado Rockies, $8,000 – I’m still having a bit of a difficult time wrapping my head around Alexander’s recent effectiveness, but a matchup against the Rockies away from Coors isn’t the day to get too picky. The fact of the matter is that Alexander has been incredible throughout August, pitching to a 1.54 ERA with a 0.86 WHIP. He’s worked at least six innings in three of his four outings in the month and has twice held his opponent scoreless. I could certainly see a similar scenario play out on Thursday afternoon, as Colorado comes into this tilt sitting dead-last in average (.208), wOBA (.265) and wRC+ (67) on the road in 2025.

Alex Bregman, Boston Red Sox at Baltimore Orioles, $5,200 – The Red Sox are looking for a four-game sweep of the Orioles this week and Bregman should be able to assist in that pursuit. The free agent addition has been great all season, when healthy, for Boston, yet he’s especially thrived against LHPs. In 105 plate appearances within the split, Bregman is batting .372 with a 171 wRC+. Today’s left-hander? Cade Povich ($6,200), a man who has pitched to a ghastly 6.22 ERA at home in 2025, all while surrendering 1.94 opponent home runs per nine. Woof.

Spencer Horwitz, Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals, $3,600 – Horwitz missed a large chunk of the first-half of the season, recovering from wrist surgery. It took the 27-year-old a little time to ease his way back in, but he’s been fantastic in the past two months. In fact, since the All-Star break, Horwitz is slashing .290/.362/.476 with a 133 wRC+ and just a 14.5% strikeout rate. It’s the reason he now finds himself atop the Pirates’ lineup as often as he does. On Thursday, the lefty will get the opportunity to face Miles Mikolas ($5,700). Since the beginning of June, Mikolas owns a 6.17 ERA and he’s allowed opposing LHBs to combine for an eye-popping .601 slugging percentage.
OUTFIELD

Bryan Reynolds, Pittsburgh Pirates at St. Louis Cardinals, $4,800 – Much like his aforementioned teammate, Reynolds also had a tough start to 2025, but is having a late-season resurgence. In the month of August, the switch-hitting outfielder is slashing .305/.371/.579 with four long balls and a 160 wRC+ across 105 plate appearances. Remember, Reynolds is a career 117 wRC+ hitter. It’s not like this is coming out of nowhere. Reynolds also has a loooooong history with Mikolas. In 42 at-bats against the RHP, Reynolds has managed six extra-base hits and a .941 OPS. Not too shabby.

Cam Smith, Houston Astros vs. Colorado Rockies, $3,200 – It hasn’t been the rookie campaign that some were hoping for with Smith, and the 22-year-old has been in a terrible slump since the All-Star break. Still, Smith did hit his eighth home run of the season in Wednesday’s victory against the Rockies and now he’ll get a chance to add to that total versus the left-handed Kyle Freeland ($5,400) on Thursday. In 105 plate appearances opposed by a southpaw, Smith has mustered a .211 ISO and a 140 wRC+. Obviously there’s some real upside in this DFS asset.
