With the 14th overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the Indianapolis Colts selected TE Tyler Warren out of Penn State. Warren was arguably the best tight end prospect in the draft, and he filled a major need for this Colts offense. The tight end position provided nothing to this passing offense a season ago, as Kylen Granson led the room with 182 yards.
Warren enters the NFL as one of the better receiving tight ends we’ve seen in college football over the last few years. He was on display in the college football playoff last season, recording 171 yards and two touchdowns. In total, he finished last season with 1,233 yards and eight touchdowns while leading the Nittany Lions in every receiving category.
So, was Warren getting drafted by the Colts good for his fantasy football outlook, or would he have been better off elsewhere?
Tyler Warren is set to have a prominent role in the passing attack this season, but the question with the Colts usually surrounds their quarterback situation. Daniel Jones is set to start the season under center, with Anthony Richardson backing him up. I’m not sure either player is a great option, but if I were a Tyler Warren fantasy owner, I’d much prefer Jones to distribute the football. The former Giant threw for 2,070 yards and eight touchdowns in 10 games last season while completing 63.3% of his passes.
Warren is slated to get a large target share from the jump, because outside of Michael Pittman Jr., Indianapolis are sorely lacking for pass catchers. The rookie did get some solid preseason work, catching all three of his targets in the opener for 40 yards. In the second game, he caught one of his three targets for 25 yards. Warren did not feature in the Colts’ final warm-up game.
The Colts were looking for pass catchers this offseason, and Warren feels like the perfect fit to hit the ground running. The tight end presents great value towards the end of drafts.
