The Fantastic Four: First Steps is still in theaters, but its predecessor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe has already made its way to the small screen. Thunderbolts* just premiered on Disney+, joining the expansive catalog of Marvel Studios movies and TV shows available on the streaming service.
When will Thunderbolts* be on Disney+?
Thunderbolts* became available to stream for all Disney+ subscribers on Wednesday, August 27, 2025 — nearly four months after it made its debut in theaters. Like all other Marvel movies, it will be on the platform in perpetuity.
The film is 2 hours and 6 minutes long. It received an 88% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and grossed $382 million at the global box office.
How can I watch it if I don’t have Disney+?
Thunderbolts* is available for purchase digitally on Amazon Prime, YouTube, Apple TV, Google Play and Fandango at Home. It is on sale for $12.99 on Amazon Prime, but costs $19.99 everywhere else.
Physical copies are also available on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD formats.
Where can I watch the Marvel movies and shows that lead into Thunderbolts*?
While there is only one Thunderbolts movie, the core members of the team had all been established in previous MCU projects. Between Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes, David Harbour’s Red Guardian, Wyatt Russell’s U.S. Agent, Hannah John-Kamen’s Ghost, Olga Kurylenko’s Taskmaster and Julia Luis-Dreyfus’ Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, the team had appeared in a total of 13 movies and shows before they joined forces.

Several of the Thunderbolts showed up over the course of the three-season animated anthology series What If…? but that show takes place in various alternate universes and does not directly play into the mainline MCU.

Will there be another Thunderbolts movie?
There are some openings in the upcoming Marvel slate, but there is not a direct Thunderbolts* sequel on the books just yet. Most of the cast has been confirmed to show up in Avengers: Doomsday, though, which is set to release in December 2026. Appearances in Avengers: Secret Wars in December 2027 seem likely, as well. As for director Jake Schreier, Marvel has hired him to spearhead the upcoming X-Men reboot, although there is no release date.
Spoiler Warning: Given how the film ends, it remains to be seen if there will ever be a Thunderbolts* 2 or if the characters will continue to team up as the New Avengers.
